The Little Rectangular Pond

We (meaning my son) dug it and lined it and this spring we put in some plants on the shelf.  We added two water lilies and then the local frogs laid about a zillion eggs in it.
It is filled by rain running off the metal roof.  We don't have any fish so I hope that doesn't hurt anything.  We went to some of the local ditches and dug out some hornwart and it seems to be thriving.  (8 month update--everything is growing like gangbusters so I guess whatever the roof sheds isn't too toxic.)  during heavy downpours, it can put a whipping on the plants, sometimes even knocking the pots off the shelf and into the water.  It's two feet deep, 3 feet wide and 11 feet long.  I didn't have to add water even once this summer in spite of the fact that it was a very dry summer.  It's sort of like standing under a waterfall when it rains and it pours off the roof into the pond.
